5 houses, each with their own story to tell. Rumor or not, these homes will surely taunt you with its rich history.

Glenerin Inn

Built in 1927 in Mississauga’s picturesque Sawmill Valley Creek sits two acres of estate grounds, a grand summer home for the wealthy Watson family living in Rosedale. This beautiful Tudor-style stone mansion now hosts the most glamorous events in the area with its elegant architectural design and thirty guest rooms and suites that have all the modern features a luxurious hotel can offer, not to mention a full service Spa. While the mansion has been upgraded through the years, the interior still maintained the property’s original period features such as the grand stone fireplaces, exposed ceiling beams, 1940s stained glass, and oversized paned windows.

And in all its beauty, this property is rumored to be haunted due to reports of ghost sightings, most commonly a man at the fireplace in the great hall. Exciting or scary or maybe both? We will let you decide.

Old Barber House

The original mansion was built in 1852 for William Barber on Barbertown Road. William’s brother and brother-in-law both had large homes in the area but were lost to fire while William’s home withstand the test of time and still shows how the principal mill-owner lived. Nowadays, the Old Barber House is a functional restaurant and a popular venue for weddings.

The property is said to be haunted by not just one but three spirits. It is said that a ghost of a 3-year old girl has been seen on the stairs, as well as 2 other spirits that roam the area have been seen by the employees but details are unclear. Do you think the rumors are true?

Cherry Hill House

The Cherry Hill House is known to be one of Canada’s top haunted houses. Among all the spirits that are said to house the property, the most famous is that of a story of the bride and his groom. The spirit behind the story is rumored to still be lingering in the property. It was told that the youngest Silverthorn son, George, returned home from California to get married. And during the celebration, there was a knock on the door. George went outside to talk to the visitor and was never seen again. To this day, He who shall not be named or rather talked about is said to be listening, opening and closing the front door whenever his disappearance was ever discussed in Cherry Hill. Was it the groom or the spirit of the bride waiting for him to come back?

Franklin House

Located in Streetsville at 263–265 Queen Street South. This Georgian style pub is known as a heritage building and was the oldest public house in Ontario. Like the others, this property is also rumored to have spirits walking among us. A young woman was discovered in a séance once and found out that the ghost is a good-natured spirit who has some Poltergeist abilities. There are stories about lights turning on and off, setting up the pool table with beer , and even letting the dog out during the night.

Cuchlainn’s Irish Pub

The pub has been operational since 2005 and has become the go-to place for many of the town’s residents. It has also been getting good reviews from visitors, locals and tourists alike. Despite its thriving outcome, the property is rumored to have a dark background. In the early 1900’s, the family who owned the house had a handicapped daughter who would be locked in the basement under the stairs while company was over. A jingling sound can be heard at times. Some say it is the sound of her thumping the door to get out. Of course, no one has seen the door or the handle move.

Do you believe any of the rumors? Up to this day, most of these properties are open to the public. If you care to find out more real life paranormal experience, you can possibly ask the staff who works there if they have a personal encounter with the residents from the “other side”.
